Can I measure my daily walking using the phone or watch?

I’ve heard anywhere between 2000 steps per mile for men and 2500 for women. Or is there no fixed length, but rather determined by your step length which is calculated each time you walk? Walking distance grand total I am trying to export my total distance walked so far in 2022 to get a grand total. When I export my health data, only exercise time, stand time etc are exported. Is there another way to get total distance distance? I wear my Apple Watch every day. Thanks.

Both but anything you record on the phone goes straight to the health app and anything recorded on the watch goes to the fitness app then the health app,they are not interchangeable.
