I restarted after changing batteries and I still can’t turn on Apple wireless keyboard but now I can’t even get into the IMac because I would have to type in pass word but can’t use keyboard to type.
would have been better off not restarting

Use a USB keyboard to enter your password.
Your wireless keyboard won't connect via USB. Maybe see if you can borrow a USB keyboard from someone just long enough to log in and connect your wireless keyboard; they're very common and it doesn't matter if it's from a Windows computer or Mac. They can also be very inexpensive.
This may sound silly but how do I get hold of a USB keyboard? I am just using my Ipad now.
