I have restarted my macbook pro over and over and I still get the network "preferences error" each time with the wifi stuck in off position. How do I correct this, or do I need to take it in for a diagnostic?

If it’s an Intel based Mac and they didn’t already ask you to try it, give an SMC Reset a try.

As a long shot, try duplicating your network location and delete the old one.
Thank you for the advice. I broke down and called Apple Support and they had me try "recovery" upon turning on the machine and it wouldn't pick up the WIFI, so I've got to take it in to Apple repair for a diagnostic, and it's either software, or hardware at fault. Again, thank you for trying. Ken
What is the “network preferences error?”
It's just when I try, either in "Systems Preferences"/network, or when I go on the internet icon at the top, and try to turn on wifi, it gives a message of "Preferences Error"
