Ive have several software updates since i've had it which I thought would solve the issue but hasn't.

Don't feel alone....
It is a known issue on 14" and 16" M1's
"The software team is aware of this software issue and they are working on a software update. Not sure when it would be released but hopefully it will be out soon with the next update. " current macOS Monterey 12.4
