I seem to remember when Fitness+ was new that a lot of people had this problem and it turned out that if you install the "Home" app for ipad it started working,I can't test any of this because I don't have fitness+ but here is the link for the home app;

Thanks again but sadly my IPad does not find my watch when I am in Fitness +, perhaps I misunderstood but according to one of your links it should work:
iPad
Apple Fitness+ is available on the App Store for the following iPad models:
Make sure your Apple Watch Series 3 or later is associated with the same Apple ID as your iPad.
Thank you, I do have Fitness + and it works perfectly with the phone. Since the screen is so much smaller is there a way to see the workout on the IPad and still get the details tracked? I have just been using an open goal on the watch at the same time.
Thank you, I think I need to reboot my watch? By any chance do you know why the IPad is not recognizing the watch? Is it possible to turn off the watch and turn it back on? The best part of this correspondence was your links got my to subscribe to Apple One and I sincerely thank you for all of your time!
This has been my first time visiting an Apple discussion group I must say thank you!! Your knowledge and prompt replies sincerely made my day! I only wish the world could help one another as well as you have done for me!
Here's how to turn the watch off and on again;
And good luck with your fitness+.
An apple watch can't pair with an ipad,only with an iphone.
If this is Fitness+ app then the watch still needs to be paired with an iphone first.
