The dock on ipad
does anyone know how to make the dock disappear?

You cannot. You can remove all apps from it by dragging them off of it and turning off the right side panel in Settings->Home Screen and Dock by turning off "Show App Library in dock" and "Show Suggested and Recent Apps in Dock" to make it very small, but you cannot make it go away entirely.
