please help me open to see if I have a functional sim card

This support document shows how to access the SIM on an iPad. Remove or switch the SIM card in your iPad - Apple Support The thing to remember is to ensure that you have a wi-fi + Cellular iPad first. Not all iPads are cellular capable and have a SIM.
