It sounds as you're conflating two entirely different things: 1) Verifying your identity in order to apply for an Apple Card and 2) Adding your Driver's license to your Wallet. They are not related tasks.

You would have been asked to scan your license as part of the card application process. If it failed, see here:

Identity verification for Apple Card or Apple Cash - Apple Support

There is a link to more information on what to do if your ID verification failed.

If you try to add your license to the Wallet app, you need to have either an Arizona or Maryland license. Even if you do, adding one to your Wallet won't verify your ID for the Apple Card application.

Please see this support page to understand how your Apple Card application is evaluated: How your Apple Card application is evaluated - Apple Support.

What you're referring to is Driver's License or State ID within the Wallet app. Only Arizona and Maryland support this currently with more states in the process.

You need to make sure your Apple ID account information is up to date.

  1. If your age is wrong, please read: Update the birth date associated with your Apple ID - Apple Support. You need to be at least 18 years old to obtain an Apple Card.
  2. Please also keep in mind Apple Card is only supported in the United States

When filling out the application be sure you're entering the correct information; full name, phone number, social security number, income, etc. This information is taken and evaluated to see if you qualify. If your information is wrong, invalid, etc. your application will be denied. Please read the above link to see how your Apple Card is evaluated and the requirement to enroll for Apple Card. Be sure you meet all of them.
