Deceased Relative's Computer Can't Be Accessed Due to Two-Factor Authentication

I have inherited a deceased relative's Apple computer. I have the appleid and the password but two-factor authentication is turned on and, due to a lengthy probate process, a now-defunct Verizon phone number can't be accessed to receive the code. What can I do?

Assuming that you don’t know the passcode (or password) of the device … ???

Question: 2FA isn’t required to access a DEVICE ???

Regardless …

Attempt to login to https://icloud.com/ w/ the known AppleID and password.

At the “code entry” screen … and click “Didn’t Receive Code”

Select one of the trusted numbers to have the code forwarded to one of those numbers to which you DO have access.
