Personalizing group chat titles

I don’t find it very convenient that I can’t personalize the title of group chats on my iphone. I should be able to label a group chat to help me differentiate btx chats that may include some of the same people in, but might be referring to different subjects in those chats. I was able to do that on my previous phones, Galaxy and Google pixel. So it’s not like it’s not possible.

It is possible - you can change the name of group chats on iPhone Messages, as well as the icon. See here for full instructions - Name a group text message on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support

Note that everyone in the group chat has to be using an Apple device, and they must be using iMessages (blue bubble, end-to-end encryption), not SMS/MMS (green bubble).

OBVIOUSLY I am not able to name the chats because NOT EVERYBODY HAS AN IPHONE. I should STILL be able to name the chats on MY OWN DEVICE, despite the types of devices everyone else is using. And it is reasonable comparing the abilities of other devices to that of Apple when those are the abilities I WAS ABLE TO USE AND STILL WANT TO USE. Apple is too restrictive. Treating you like you are a child, or uncivilized being that can’t handle the responsibility of technology. Maybe some you can’t. But I don’t need Apple to tell me how to function.

You can't blame Apple for this- they don't have any control over SMS/MMS. That is dictated by your carrier, not Apple. As such, Apple cannot allow you to name SMS/MMS chats because they simply don't control that form of messaging. iMessage (blue bubble, end-to-end encryption) is different from SMS/MMS (green bubble, no encryption [because it goes through your carrier]).

I hope this clears things up for you.

Apple has a long and storied history of giving people what Apple decides people need, not what people say they want. Many people find this offputting. Fortunately, one can always switch to an Android device if it's too distressing. Androids have different features and different kinds of customization options than iPhones do.

It is possible... anything is. The argument "because Android and Google Pixel" do it though isn't a good one.

Apple does plenty of things these phones don't do.

  1. Such as this ground breaking feature: Apple expands commitment to protect users from mercenary spyware - Apple.
  2. No one else gives you as much control over your privacy: Privacy - Apple.
  3. Apple is committed to your privacy unlike these other companies. Especially Google whose constantly building a profile on you.
  4. The security on your Apple devices is unmatched compared to its competitors.

and there are plenty more I could list, but that's not the point. Whenever you choose one operating system (OS) over another you're going to not have some features the others may offer. You switched to iPhone for a reason.
