My computer is stuck at 1% battery charge and only works on charger.

I live in Nigeria. My computer is stuck at 1% battery charge and only works on charger. I tried resetting SMV and then the non-volatile random-access memory as suggested in the forum. I then tried Apple on-line support and they ran diagnostics with me and suggested taking it to a place called Ensure Solutions that has 53 Google reviews and 3.4 stars with most customers sayin the repair shop is inept. I guess waiting two months until next trip to USA seems to be the Apple recommended solution. But then. Magic. It started working after four days of being hung-up.

I doubt it is fixed unless it was a bad connection with the charger or an issue with the charger itself or charging cable. If you have a USB-C laptop, then using another USB-C port may make a difference. Sometimes connecting the USB-C charging cable with the connector 180 degrees upside down can work if a USB-C port is half bad. If you have a Magsafe charger, then maybe the Magsafe connector was not fully seated with the laptop. Sometimes unplugging the charger from the electrical outlet for a minute to reset the charger's internal circuitry.

If you have a USB-C laptop, then make sure to connect the charger directly to the laptop since adapters, docks, and hubs may not allow the full power of the charger to reach the laptop.

Make sure to disconnect all external devices as they will be draining power from the system which may make it harder for the laptop to charge the battery.

Make sure you are using the correct size charger or larger. If you use a smaller charger, then the battery will drain while you use the laptop even when plugged into the charger as the battery will be providing the missing power to compensate for the smaller charger.

It is best not to let your battery become completely discharged for any extended length of time as it can prevent the laptop from powering on or even charging. Once the battery is at 0% it is best to connect the charger as soon as you have access to an electrical outlet to prevent these issues.

Hope it holds up until you can get access to a reputable AASP.

Thanks HW. Good advice. But with this particular problem, the computer would only run on battery, even while on charger, until it arrived at 1% where it hung-up, alternating between charger and battery every 10 seconds. Then after Apple chat service gave-up and said it had to go to service, suddenly the Great Computer God intervened and fix the problem. (The last thing we did was run "diagnostics" and it came out 100%. Maybe that fixed the glitch.)
