Orange dot visible non-speakerphone

The orange light during non speaker phone calls caused me concern as well. I recall it only coming on while taking a call on speaker. So, naturally it would be cause for concern for others as well. We never received the memo on that change.

According to this article, About the orange and green indicators in your iPhone status bar - Apple Support

"the orange dot means the microphone is being used by an app on your iPhone." and it was iOS 14 that we 1st saw the indicator dots. When you make a call, you are using the Phone app and during that call, whether the call is on speakerphone or not, you are using the microphone to talk & the speaker to hear.

Hopefully that helps.
