If you don’t have a pre-existing backup, you’ll not be able to restore your data.

Your iPad uses an encrypted filesystem. Unless you are able to successfully power-on your iPad such that it is running normally - and you are able to enter your passcode - all locally stored data will remain encrypted and beyond reach/unrecoverable.

If you value your data, it is essential that you always keep a backup - this being true for any computer system, not just your iPad. For Apple devices, keeping a backup is relatively painless; you can natively backup your data using iCloud (this process being entirely automatic) or using iTunes:

With a backup, should disaster strike, you can easily restore your data from the backup:

Restoring your iPad:

If you don't have a backup, then you're out of luck for now. Take this as a learning experience, knowing to always back up your iPad. That way you can have something to restore it from should anything go wrong. As an alternative, look in locations that you may have stored this info in. You can enable iTunes in iCloud settings, seeing it they pop up.

What to try...

Troubleshooting Lost Photos & Videos:

Loss of data is something you would have agreed to upon opening an Apple Account. So, if the following does not work, then they are gone. That's just the way it is :(

Four Tactics to Try:

A. Start here: If you're Missing Photos or Videos in the Photos app - Apple Support

B. Check iCloud Directly:

See if they reside in iCloud Photos. Log in here: https://www.icloud.com/photos

C. Use a Time Machine Backup:

Did you backup your Mac, recently? If so, then restore your Mac from that. You'd backup you Mac prior to doing so, and then restore your data from the backup you just created, through use of Migration Assistant.

D. Where Else to Check:

  • PC
  • PDA
  • eMail
  • Mac Device
  • Cloud Storage
  • Android Phone
  • USB Flash Drive
  • External Hard drive
  • Secure Digital Card
  • Compact Flash Card
