Verify that these are Genuine:

No. I have not noticed any weird smell coming from my AirPods. But, if concerned, then return these. In fact, being you are suspicious of a smell, I am curious if these are genuine (officially Apple). So, to find out, perform the following...

  1. Get the Serial Number: Find the Serial Number of your AirPods - Apple Support
  2. Enter the Serial Number Here: https://checkcoverage.apple.com/.
  3. View the Results: If all shows up as a AirPods, then you are fine. If not, then these are fake, and that is likely why you are getting an issue.

Out of the hundreds of thousands sold, probably someone has, though I haven't noticed any posts about it here in the forums. You might want to search the forums for yourself, though.

But, even if someone else has, it doesn't have much bearing on your situation. If you think they smell and that's a problem for you, return them.

Soft rubber sometimes smells a bit when it's new. I never noticed any smell on my Airpod Pros but, I don't hold them to my nose.

"Thank hank you, I returned them and got a different pair from Best Buy, they are a lot better. When I type the S/N into the apple site, it says they don’t have history on date of purchase. Is this something we would put in? Might be a dumb question."

Get these From Apple:

From what you've reported, these were returned and/or never successfully restored when rung through the cash register. So, I strongly recommend that you purchase this form Apple, and none other.
