found a watch under water. how to send back to owner

I found an Apple watch on a shipwreck in Aruba while SCUBA diving.

I powered it up and reset it so that it's at the pairing state, however it now asks to pair or unpair from "r*******@gmail.com". Since I can't use this, I would be happy to return to the owner. Can Apple locate the owner by email? if so, How should I proceed?

Hello Lisa,

  1. Scuba diving a shipwreck sounds amazing! What an experience!
  2. Although I agree with trying to find the owner, Apple has a very strict privacy policy, which includes trying to find owners of lost devices. Your best bet is to try and leave it charged in hopes the owner puts the device in Lost Mode. This allows them to put a phone number on the device so you can call them back.

Thank you so much for this quick reply.

I will do as you suggest and see what happens.

The Antilla wreck in Aruba is a huge wreck and my local dive instructor finds these frequently.

The wreck is fairly shallow such that it attracts lots of snorkel boats as well as dive operators. We suspect these come from snorkelers, so it's really impossible to locate the owner, or even know how long it's been under water. But I will try to keep it charges. perhaps the owner will see it come alive.
