After a trip to Brazil, my phone cannot correctly format a dialed number without putting a +1 every time

I returned from a trip to Brazil about a month ago. Ever since then, every time I try to dial a US number, my phone automatically formats it the Brazilian way (00) 00000-0000, unless I type the country code. I have removed my Brazilian SIM card, force restarted my phone, made sure my language & region are correct, and ensured that Dial Assist is on. I cannot seem to solve this issue and it is driving me nuts! I can't even paste a number into the Phone or dial a number by clicking on a phone number hyperlink from a website because my phone formats it the wrong way.

Does anyone know how to fix this?!

You can change the country format for addresses and phone numbers using https://www.icloud.com

Note: These changes apply only to Contacts on iCloud.com. You must change formatting individually on each of your devices using the Contacts app on iOS and Mac, or Microsoft Outlook on Windows computers. For more information, see the documentation for the apps.

  1. Click the Action pop-up menu  in the sidebar, then choose Preferences.
  2. Choose a country from the Address Layout menu.
  3. To have Contacts automatically add hyphens and other symbols in phone numbers, select “Automatically format phone numbers.” If you want to be able to enter phone numbers in more than one format, don’t select this option.
  4. Click Save.
