I went to Preferences on Mail, defined a Rule as:
----- If "Date sent"
------"is greater than"
------" 2000" days old" (I was attempting to limit mail to the last 5 years)
Perform the following actions:
------"Move message" to Junk
My ~21000 messages than changed to ~36000
