Confirm MacBook Pro password

I have a new MacBook Pro. Set up and transfer or data from old MacBook went fine. However, I have a red dot on System Preferences. When open red dot on Apple ID. When opened asked to confirm MacBook Pro password to continue using iCloud. When "continue" is clicked a small blank box begins to open and immediately closes. Issues remain and Im still asked to confirm password
