Can a MacBook Pro (15-inch,2017) charge/maintain battery levels with a 28W Solar Charger(5V/4.8A Max)? VIA USB to Type C.

I'm seeing if a 28W Solar Charger (via USB to Type C) is able to charge or maintain my MacBook Pro (15-inch,2017) because I currently work with a company that is out of the middle of nowhere that doesn't have power. Will it work?

It may work to charge the laptop if the laptop is powered off. A 15" MBPro requires an 87W charger to be able to charge the laptop while using the laptop, otherwise the battery will drain to make up for what the smaller charger is unable to provide. You may want to invest in a rechargeable battery pack (power bank) that can be connected via USB-C so you can charge the battery pack separately (although it only mentions a 13" MBPro as one of them is only 65W). The product page does mention how long it takes to recharge the power bank using two methods (mentions the charge rate with the alternate method which may help you figure out the rate with your solar option).

You may also want to chat with OWC to see if they have any suggestions. While OWC sells similar devices, they are only half the capacity and only mention iPhones & iPads. OWC has been supporting Macs for decades.

I've tried a 26-watt PD charger on my 2021 16-Inch M1 MacBook Pro and it would support the laptop but barely managed to show a charge during light operation. A power brick would probably be your best option to allow it to charge whenever you have sun.

Are you saying that the company does not have electric power or is it spotty? Seems hard to believe that a functioning company can exist without power. If the power is intermittent, then consider a UPS with battery backup. A UPS will supply power when the mains are down.
