iTunes rolling back action installing on Windows 7

Today I hit a permissions-related issue with installing iTunes 12.4.3.1 on a Windows 7 PC, and wanted to share my solution.

By default, it appears that the installer lacks permission to edit or delete a file during the installation process. In a post from 2009 for Windows Vista, one person's solution was to execute the iTunes installer from the command line.

If you're using Windows 7, there's an easier trick.

  1. Log in as an Administrator on your PC.
  2. Right-click on the installation file. In my case it was iTunes64Setup.exe.
  3. Select Run as Administrator

The installer should be able to finish without rolling back.

Windows, Windows 6
