locating a phone

I lost my phone. My son can see from his phone that the last location was where I was when I was last using it to browse the internet. He is "pinging" my phone for the location and he sees that it says "sounding", but we do not hear it . Calls are going straight to voicemail. The phone did not continue to send a signal after I logged out the last time I used it. Is there a way to locate a phone even though the battery may have died by now?

I'm guessing that when your son checked in Find My, the device was displaying that it was offline? If it is offline, then it cannot be tracked, or a sound made. To be successfully tracked, Find My has to have been activated before you lost the device, it has to be powered on, and it has to be connected to the internet. If any of those is not present, then you cannot track it, you will need to just look for it.
