“Increase Display Contrast On” Why do I get this message when logging on?

This is a repeat of an earlier question.

I have a M1 2020 Macbook Air using Monterey 12.4.

Whenever I do a user logon, I see an alert for about 15 seconds “Increase Display Contrast On”.  The machine finishes the logon normally.

I can repeat the message by logging out and logging in again.

The “Increase contrast” checkbox is not on in the Accessibility settings.

This issue has persisted through several OS Updates including the update from Big Sur to Monterey.

What could be causing this?

Hi 1-2-3forMac,

It's understood the option isn't turned on in the Accessibility settings. However, are you seeing there's a shortcut enabled for this feature? Change Display preferences for accessibility on Mac

If your Mac has Touch ID this would be enabled by quickly pressing Touch ID three times.

Navigate to the Apple menu > System Preferences, click Accessibility, then click Shortcut. Here you can turn this option off.

If no shortcuts are available, boot to safe mode and test. How to use safe mode on your Mac

"Apple silicon

  1. Shut down your Mac.
  2. Turn on your Mac and continue to press and hold the power button until you see the startup options window.
  3. Select your startup disk, then press and hold the Shift key while clicking “Continue in Safe Mode.”
  4. Log in to your Mac. You might be asked to log in again."

Should the issue remain after testing safe mode, create a new administrator account and test. Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Cheers.
