How to use a Mac with both additional SSD & HDD drives together?

Hello,

I got a new MacBook Pro months ago, and its storage unit is small because I can't fill in many files my laptop can hold. Luckily I technically have an external HDD drive, and I finally got a new SSD today. But I heard that I could use both drive types as one setup, and I need your help on how to do that with a Mac. Does anyone know how to do that? If so, feel free to reply. ;)

along with ku4hx's reply, you should always erase and reformat any drive before putting it into service. that way you can ensure the drive will be understood by your Mac. and if you don't need to use them between windows and macOS, you should format them as APFS. to properly format the drives, please refer to these two apple support pages:

Erase and reformat a storage device in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support

File system formats available in Disk Utility on Mac - Apple Support
