Is there any response when you connect it to a charger? Try a known good cable that works with another device. Check for fluff in the docking port. You may need to replace the battery if it can no longer hold enough charge to operate the device. It seems Apple no longer offer this service, which wasn't cheap, but you can get the parts from Amazon, eBay etc. and do it yourself or find a third party repair shop.

It's likely that the battery is fully depleated (meaning, it can no longer hold a charge). Unfortuatenly, these are long discontinued and servicing them is unavailable through Apple.
That’s disappointing but thanks for your input.
