How reliable is the Consolidate media option?

I assume it copies the media to the designated storage location which in this case will be on another drive.

Merging iPhoto Library on Hard drive to current iCloud Library - 42,000 items and 7,000 I have an iPhoto library on an external hard drive that has approx. 42,000 items and an iCloud photo library that is created on my phone and is around 7,000 items. The goal is to have both merged, and uploaded and active in the iCloud. I think I should be able to switch my hard drive library to the systems library in order to switch it over to icloud and have them backed up in the cloud but this is not possible, I get a message saying "Not enough local storage, syncing paused." So with my library being 204 gb, I am being told by Apple Customer Service, that I must have a device with enough local storage in order to use their back up services?? Is this the only way? To go purchase a iMac with 200 plus GB? What about customers with libraries that want to convert to Apple... there is no option for them to bring their libraries with them? I believe that importing would not work then as well, and would be insanely tedious and time consuming. I will be cleaning up the library and my laptop to create space but there is no way I will come close to making this happen at this scale. I had to find a way to store my photos long before iCloud was an option and now I feel stuck. Is there a work around? Goals: Upload a large amount of items to iCloud from external hard drive Use devices that I already own - iPhone 11 128gb, Mac Book Air 245gb, Hard drive 204gb End goal - view travel memories on a photo frame or screen from a folder in iCloud that stays up to date, shuffles photos in home. WHY DOES THIS NOT EXIST!? Any help and guidance is appreciated as I have been going in circles for weeks. Thank you in advance.

Move files out of disk image on volume to same volume without copying possible? Apple community. This may seem like a trivial question and a non starter, but I thought I'd post in case someone knows of a clever way to do this: Is it possible to move files out of a disk image that is on a RAID and onto the RAID itself without copying the files? The issue is that technically these files are already on the physical RAID taking up the space, but they're inside a sparse disk image. It would be great if I could just move them out of the diske rather than copying them onto the same RAID volume, dealing with the time this takes, and deleting files from the disk image after they've been copied out of it so that I don't fill up the RAID. Hope this makes sense.

How to find duplicates of saved images and files on External HDD on iPadOS? I tried doing work mainly on the iPad Pro M2, and when my iPad storage is almost full I transfer movies and photos to an external HDD for backup. Sometimes, I get to copy again the same files so I end up having duplicates on my hard drive. I could remove the duplicates using my a laptop/desktop but that feature feels like it should have been on the iPad Pro in the first place. Is there an app for this? Or is it possible to get that feature in any way using the iPad? This is frustrating…

It's as reliable as an other drive to drive copy function without verification. What are you looking for?

You would need to be be more specific about exactly what you’re doing. If you’re consolidating from inside a library, yes, the files will be deleted from the library.
