No. I am not talking about Mission Control. I believe I may have solved it though. When I hit the F3 button on my MacBook pro. right now, it says Dashboard and Desktop and there is a + sign in the upper right that seems to add desktop views. Somehow I must have added a desktop view and then opened the browser. Probably I need to just close the other desktop and open the browser in the original desktop view.

What browser and what app? Try as I might, I can't duplicate what you seem to be saying.

Browsers are apps too. If you have more than one open, your can switch back and forth.

Again, are you talking about Mission Control where the screen suddenly, or by choice, shows all windows in a patchwork configuration?

Those aren't desktops; they are app windows. That are superimposed over the single desktop. Each windows has the tricolor "traffic light" as a dead giveaway.

Based on your RAM available, you can open many and close any at any given time.

This is a standard feature of all Macs ... multiple app windows open at once.
