I want to save for an iPhone and pay towards buying it with my gift cards but Apple charges now the balance before the credit card for everything. All subscriptions have been charged from the balance and I really don’t want that to happen.

Thank you for answering but it doesn’t solve anything. It seems there is no way to NOT use the gift card balance first. Since they changed to allowing balances to be used for everything rather than restricted to apps/iTunes OR a product, it just uses the balance for all subscriptions. They need to change this so that gift cards can be used for what they were intended for by those gifting them.
