Apple Mail on Laptop - Hotmail Won't Verify Accountg - Accidentally Blocked My Own Device - Help?

I use apple devices - MacBook and iPhone and mainly use the laptop for my mail as I am old fashioned and find typing on a phone difficult.

I have a hotmail account in my Apple Mail program.

I have been hacked by an ex in the past so have extra security on my hotmail account. It told me that someone from Washington State USA had synced with my hotmail account successfully and I thought it was a hacker or my ex as I do not live in the USA. I clicked "This Wasn't Me". I changed my password and added 2 stop authentication thinking I had been hacked.

Unfortunately, it was actually somehow my laptop (not sure why it said my laptop was in WA, USA??) and now I cannot use my hotmail account on my apple mail on my laptop. I have tried everything but it says Cannot Verify Username and Password. I know the password is correct as I can still use it on my iPhone, but I have somehow locked myself or my IP or something out of my laptop apple mail.

How do I fix this? I have tried hotmail support and can find no answers. I have already tried deleting and re-adding my hotmail to the apple mail program but it won't verify the account. No matter how may times I try and restart and enter the user info, it won't verify the account on this one device. I can only assume that somehow I have blocked this device.

Do I need to buy a new laptop to sort this out?? How do I unblock my laptop from my hotmail account?

Please help. I am a bit OCD with how I do things and using the hotmail web browser or mail on my phone makes my head hurt. I have been using the apple mail program on my laptop for years and really want things back the way they were.

Please help? (I am not so great with technology so please be simple and use step by step instructions.)

Thanks sincerely from a very old fashioned OCD lady

Hey, see if this applies...

It may just need an App Password separate from the Mail password…
