MacBook Pro is not supported by iPhone 12 Max Pro??? All are updated! They paired just fine. But they will not connect. iPhone gives the message that MacPro is not supported???? I've rebooted both devices. I've forgot both devices. I tried multiple times. They pair but then the bluetooth will not connect. My iPhone says that my laptop is not supported. My iPhone is a 12 and my laptop is brand new. HELP Please!

Bluetooth pairing an iPhone and any computer is not supported.

An iPhone will not pair via Bluetooth to a computer (Mac or Windows) or an iPad except for personal hotspot and then only if your cellular plan supports it. See the following for more information: Bluetooth: Why can't I pair my iPhone or … - Apple Community

If you are attempting to use Handoff/Continuity or AirDrop, that does involve Bluetooth but the devices are NOT paired; Bluetooth just needs to be on and the devices in range of each other. The following may help with Handoff/Continuity issues: Use Continuity to connect your Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support

Ok, as it hasn’t become clear to you yet, YOU CANNOT CONNECT AN IPHONE TO ANY COMPUTER USING BLUETOOTH. But there is also no need to. So FORGET Bluetooth, don’t tap on Bluetooth; it has nothing to do with connecting your phone to your Mac for any purpose.

There are several ways to transfer photos. Bluetooth is not one of them, AND NEVER HAS BEEN. Here are all the ways described→Copying personal photos and videos from iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to your computer

I just played with my computer a bit and I can get the same error popup you get.

I think there must be some confusion because you can't exactly 'pair' your phone with your MacBook.

You must have initiated this 'pairing' from the Bluetooth menu on your MacBook. My iPhone was shown in the Devices list of my MacBook with the option to 'Connect', then I had to respond to the pairing request on my phone with a 6 digit code..

My MacBook is then listed in the iPhone's Bluetooth device list, showing as Not Connected. Tap it and I get the same pop up you posted.

All this aside, you can't transfer photos from your phone to your MacBook by being 'paired' with bluetooth. You'd connect your phone with a cable and then open the Photos app and select to import

Your previous computer.. were you using iCloud photos, where you'd see the pictures from your phone automatically appear in the Photos app? Do you pay for additional iCloud storage?

Thank you. I may have always been connected via cable. I used to charge my phone with my computer. The new one has a different connection. I did buy the adapter but it goes together and pulls back out with difficulty. It seems stiff and it’s hard to get ahold of. I guess I don’t remember. Happens to old folks.

I did manage to back up my old one, deleted everything from it and traded it in. I managed to get e tiff the backup onto the new computer. Everything is set. The photo transfer was my last difficulty.

so sorry to have taken all you alls time.

I now understand that I have to physically plug in to upload photos - no Bluetooth transfer.

you might be better served with a cable that has the correct ends rather than an adapter.. But either way works

The iPhone 12 would have come with a USB C to lightning cable, so I assume that your MacBook does not have any USB C ports.. Probably has USB A ports?

Here is one that Apple sells.. or if you have the cable from your old iPhone, that should still work for you.

Lightning to USB Cable (1 m)

Anker also has plenty of options..

ok, just saw your comment above that says your laptop is a week old..

So you have a newer MacBook now and it has USB C ports.. and an iPhone 12 Pro Max

USB type C is much smaller than USB type A.. & USB C you can rotate 180 degrees and it still works

I believe the iPhone 12 lineup all came with USB C to Lightning cables.. Are you using the cable that came with the phone? Or are you using an old cable from a prior iPhone.. Maybe the new cable is still in the iPhone box somewhere?

In any case, here is the only other style of cable that you'd need if the first ones I sent are not right...

USB-C to Lightning Cable (1 m)

or Anker again

yes, hello, thank you for your patience and attempts at helping me. I read someplace else that the first time you try to connect via Bluetooth to first connect via a cable. So, I tried that. It did not work either. My laptop does recognize my phone. I can connect via iTunes when connected via a cable.

I wanted to transfer photos from my phone to my laptop without connecting via a cable. I use to be able to do that until I got a new MacPro Laptop. It appears that I have to connect via cable to transfer photos.

I do not understand why that I don't seem to be able to connect via bluetooth or why a brand new laptop would not be supported. My phone is only 2 years old. My laptop is a week old! All software is up to date. I have told the phone previously this is a trust computer. I have shut everything down and back up. I have deleted the devices and then repaired the devices. I have tried bluetooth over home wifi and over personal hotspot on my phone. I have even tried now to connect blue tooth while connected via cable. Devices are right on top of each other. Devices pair just fine. BUT the devices will NOT connect!

Do you have any idea, what I could be doing wrong? OR why I cannot connect via bluetooth?

Thank you again for your patience and attempts at helping me.

It was a USB. Now it is tiny usb thing. The adapter is hard for me to use. It seems hard to push the usb cable into adapter. It plugs into computer easy. It is hard to get ahold of it to remove it from laptop without pulling on the wire part. I had a 2015 Early Edition MacPro with 2 regular USB ports a magnetic power cable SS card ports and some other port. Now I have just 2 tiny USB ports and 1 of those is for the power cable.

previously you indicated that plugging the cable into the adapter was the challenge.. but what you're showing is the direct connection to the computer.

It might be worth noting, that USB C can require a little extra push to get it fully inserted. And yes, the ports are pretty close together on the Macbooks. I am not sure what to tell you on that one.

Do you mostly leave your MacBook at a desk? Or do you move it around the house?

If you mostly just leave it at a desk, then maybe consider leaving the cable plugged in all the time. Then when you want to connect your phone, just plug the lightning connector into your phone..

If you unplug the cable because you need it elsewhere, then consider getting a new cable so that you can leave one plugged into the computer along with the charger?

image is my setup.. I always have that cable plugged in and coiled off to the side. For me it’s mostly cause I’m lazy, but for you it might make life easier
