HEIF files from Sony a7 iv

I got the same error with an iCloud icon and an exclamation point at the LR corner of the photo after editing HEIF files from Sony a7 iv camera. It looks like a system bug.

We would like to investigate this issue in more detail. So that we're sure we have all the information needed, what is the macOS version installed on your Mac? You can locate this information by clicking the Apple Menu () in the top left corner and selecting About this Mac.

Do you have iCloud Photos enabled? This is typically an error that you see when your iPhone connection isn’t able to load the photo from iCloud.

I would suggest that you reach out to your Mac Photos development team to see in what situations this error message would popup. It does not mention anything about compatibility.

The error message in a popup window I get by clicking the iCloud icon is "Error Downloading Photo, An error occurred while loading a higher quality version of this photo. Please try again later." I'm using a 2017 27" iMac. When I revert the edit back to original, the error icon disappears. By the way, I don't get this error when editing same photos on a 4th generation iPad Air.

I do have iCloud Photos enabled and syncing photos between my Apple devices works fine except only for this problem. This is not a problem on my iPhone. It is a problem on my Mac. I think this problem is related to issues in the Photos app on my Mac.
