I don't know how to use this Shortcut. I have tried with Safari and Firefox...I have no perspective of the steps, the sequence and what to be on the screen when.
I will really appreciate some guidance in this - thank you!

I don’t have the shortcut, so I don’t know what it should be doing.
The workflow doesn’t appear to do anything to the URL.
I found the workflow on my iPad. Yours is missing the parts that actually make it work.
Maybe see if you can download it from the Gallery, again.
It says as I described. Ctrl-click on a URL and select the Shortcut in the Quick Actions submenu.

The Short Cut we were looking at had missing pieces as you intuited. I explored the Gallery, and the app has 9 steps. HEre they are: I want to thank you so much for your attention to this and your patience: thank you, thank you! appreciated!
From where did you get this Shortcut? I can't find it on my Macs. Perhaps they have instructions.
In general, a Shortcut can operate with or without input. If I were to make such a shortcut, I would have it get the selected text. So, I would expect you ctrl-click on a URL and you can choose it from the contextual menu.

I got this shortcut from the Shortcuts App, Version 5.0 (1146.14)_.
I haven't found instruction on its use. Have tried alternatives in Safari and Firefox...nope. I also saw hope in your description but that didn't work either. There has to be a way in which one copies the web/URL then select the shortcut to process that in the clipboard, and then paste that shortened URL in the base one is working on. But I wasn't able to do that either. I am pasting its process below FYI. LEt me know if "you see something". Thank you Barney.

I learned something though - that right click in Safari opens that Services Menu. I is also seen under the main Safari Menu. ANd in Firefox it is in Services too.
But, I am doing something wrong - I try pasting in Notes...and ...the same length as the URL in the browser.
