EMAIL NOT SYNCING PROPERLY - MACBOOK M1 - MAC OS 12.5

Hi All. I am pulling my hair out. For the last month or so my emails on Macbook download very slowly or not at all. Some days there will only by 5 emails displaying, the next day they would all be there again. Sometimes I would search under a sender's name and MAIL says there are not messages even though there are many from that sender. I would restart mail en reboot my computer, then suddenly it would be fine, but then a few minutes later it would be "downloading" 50 000 mails...or 2000-odd mails - totally erratic! I have uninstalled all ant-malware / anti-virus applications but this does not help. My internet connection is super fast and there are no issues on my iPhone which shares the same wifi zone.... Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks. Joe

Start with this of M1 Mac...

Start up a Mac with Apple silicon in safe mode

On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > Shut Down.

After your Mac shuts down, wait 10 seconds.

Press and hold the power button on your Mac until the startup options window appears showing available startup disks and Options.

Select a startup disk.

Press and hold the Shift key, click Continue in Safe Mode, then release the Shift key.

To leave safe mode, restart your Mac normally, without pressing and holding any keys during startup.

If you have no POP accounts & they’re all IMAP accounts then in Mail’s Mailbox menu choose Rebuild.
