Icons Suddenly Showed Up in Dock

A few days ago, Mail, Maps, "com.apple.ichat" (as a grey question mark icon), "Manager" (a circular blue App Store icon), System Preferences, and Launchpad all suddenly showed up in a row in my dock. They won't go away when I try to remove them from the dock. Any suggestions?

What else changed a few days ago...(?)

What part of the Dock—

Are you logged into the correct account

You should see your user name in the drop down >Log out and log back in.

Remove an item from the Dock: Drag the item out of the Dock until Remove is shown.

Use the Dock on Mac - Apple Support

if no resolve try a Safeboot——SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc., third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled

Login and test. try removing your items from the Dock. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

Personally, would hod off actioning this until @leroydouglas rejoins your question.

He might have much more insights than I can offer except to offer the below.

It will not hurt to see just what is happening on this computer.

Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

The application is free or paid from added features.

It will take a Snap Shot -  both the hardware and software.

The Report will Not Reveal Any Personal Information.

Post back the Full Report - copy and paste - using the Additional Text Icon ( 3rd Icon to last )

We can have a look at the report for possible issues and may have possible suggestions to resolve the issues.

Thanks so much.

I restarted my computer a few days ago because I was getting an error while trying to print. So there's been no changes made.

The icons show up in the area of the doc where other added apps go.

I am logged into the right account, I do know how to remove an item from the doc, and I've tried the Safeboot. No luck. They're still there. :s

Any other suggestions?

Did you try Control click on the icon>Options>Remove from Dock
