How to disable PDF lock in Files

I have a PDF file that I added my signature on and wanted to lock for editing only.

However after using the “lock PDF” option in Files, the file asks for the set password every time before opening.

This was not my intention as I don’t want to share the set password with the third party. So I want to remove the password protection now. There doesn’t seem to be a simple “unlock PDF” option though which feels really stupid and counterintuitive to Apple standard design...

How do I unlock the file again?

Hello jacekfromshrewsbury,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities, and we'll be happy to help in any way we can. We understand you're having issues with an encrypted .PDF file on your iPad. We have information for you about how to turn the password off in Pages here: Password-protect a Pages document on iPad - Apple Support

"With the document open, do one of the following:

  • Change a password: Tap the More button, then tap Change Password. Enter the required information, then tap Done.
  • Remove a password: Tap the More button, tap Change Password, then turn off Require Password. Type the old password, then tap Done.

People you invite to collaborate on a document and who have editing permission can add, change, or delete the password."

If this is within Adobe, we recommend reaching out to them for the steps to change this.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!
