I just encountered the exact same error, and instead of reinstalling everything I just added a volume to my HD with the appropriate amount of space anticipated and it's working perfectly.

  1. Go to Disk Utility > Volume +/-
  2. Title your new volume anything you want, but make sure the format is APFS.
  3. Add the amount of space you think you'll need for the new volume.
  4. Copy the Epic Games Launcher from your Applications folder to the new volume. I named mine Epic Games just to keep it separate.
  5. Launch the Epic Games Launcher from this new volume. It should work.

About Case Sensitive:

Clone the Drive, then Format it Accordingly:

You have a case sensitive formatted hard drive, or partition. So, that is why you are setting this error. I would recommend finding out who the developer is, asking them if the have the correct installer for you. Elsewise, clone the hard drive, and then restore it from the backup, formatting it as non-case sensitive.

So, I Reinstalling the macOS Anew:

View my User Tip: How to Reinstall the macOS Anew - No TMB Prior to Upgrade - User Tip. Format the hard drive with Big Sur on step D.

Pretty much, it is a matter of:

  1. Erasing: and formatting your hard drive to APFS
  2. Installing: [the applicable macOS] via a USB Bootable Installer
  3. Restoring: info from a Time Machine Backup, using Migration Assistant
  4. Re-obtaining: Licenses form a Developer
