iPhone 4 - Error 9 during Restore

Hi there,

I'm trying to Restore the iPhone but Error 9 keeps popping up. The iPhone is literally a dud now just stuck on the screen with the cable and iTunes symbol.

I've tried doing the Restore on a 13" MB Pro, iMac and Windows Vista 64 bit, all bringing up the same error. I am running iTunes 9.2.1 on all machines.

Any advice or info appreciated.

Thanks.

Powerbook 17" / Macbook 13.3", Mac OS X (10.6.4)

i agree mate the restore should fix the problem but guess what, it forces itunes to do the update. SO update is faulty and restores forces the update see the problem

Does the iPhone come with a warranty?
All iPhones, including reconditioned models, come with a 1 year limited Manufacturers warranty. If your iPhone experiences technical issues within a year of purchase, then the product can be returned to the point of purchase with a valid till receipt or other proof or purchase to enable repair, replacement or refund as appropriate. If you buy online, the easiest way to organise a repair or exchange is via Apple online, alternatively contact customer services.

I'm in the same boat. After an attempted update to 4.0.2, I received a message stating that the phone could not be updated, error code 3159. I've confirmed that I have the latest version of iTunes, I swapped USB/dock cables, rebooted my PC - on my 3rd attempt now. Next step is to try it on my MacBook. After that I believe I have exhausted all of Apple's suggested troubleshooting steps and I will be making an appointment at my local Apple Store.

If I have to wait for a replacement, I will shoot through the roof!

Thankfully, the 3rd attempt after my reboot succeeded. I'm on 4.0.2 now and waiting for a sync to complete. I'm a little ticked that I have to sit through a complete restore, but at least the phone isn't bricked. So far I've been lucky not to have been hit by something like this. I suppose in the future I'll check the support forums before I download updates to iTunes or my iPhone.
