Touch ID not working for ApplePay

The Touch ID on my MacBook Pro 15inch 2022 (OS Monterey 12.4) has stopped working for Apple Pay. It works fine for passwords, opening my laptop, filling website passwords, etc. Just not for Apple Pay. The red fingertip symbol half-completes and gets stuck and I'm in a loop with a payment I cant make.

It seems to be the only app/use that Touch ID doesn't work for. It used to work fine and I dont know what's changed recently (maybe an OS upgrade?) I already deleted and re-added my fingertip, I added another fingertip as well. Still won't work. Any ideas anyone?

Thank you but I have done all the steps suggested by this link (included re-reading my prints and setting up an extra finger) and re-iterate that Touch ID is working on everything except ApplePay, and that this problem has only recently surfaced, ie it used to work fine. I can't however locate whether the problem arose after an OS update, which seems to get asked a lot in other threads re this apparently common problem.
