Songs on Playlist Being Skipped

Apple Music is constantly skipping songs on a 300 song playlist. More than half are being skipped. All music is downloaded according to all iPhone/Music indications. Most noticeable when using CarPlay, even when in a strong 5G signal area although I would not think a data connection would be required when songs are downloaded.

I have the latest software installed for the phone, I’ve tried on both cellular data and Wi-Fi, live in the USA.

My storage capacity is 512 GB with 424.24 GB available. I supposedly have 2,046 songs downloaded using 55 GB. Have Music storage set to Optimize Storage 256 GB. I am an Apple Music subscriber.

Are songs not played in some time being

Hi hgladner,

Since this happens when the connection is weak or unavailable, make sure that the songs are downloaded. If you downloaded them previously and it appears that they need to be downloaded again, check to see which options are selected from Settings > Music > Optimize Storage. Details below are from Add music to iPhone and listen offline - Apple Support and may help further.

"Manage storage space

  • Free up music storage: If iPhone is low on storage space, you can automatically remove downloaded music that you haven’t played in a while. Go to Settings  > Music > Optimize Storage.
  • Remove music and videos stored on iPhone: Touch and hold a song, album, playlist, music video, TV show, or movie that you’ve downloaded. Tap Remove, then tap Remove Downloads.
  • The item is removed from iPhone, but not from iCloud Music Library.
  • Remove all songs or certain artists from iPhone: Go to Settings > Music > Downloaded Music, tap Edit, then tap  next to All Songs or the artists whose music you want to delete."

Since you have plenty storage space, this may not be the cause but changing those settings may isolate where this occurs. Your other devices should not impact this behavior on your iPhone but you can certainly check those devices and make any needed changes there as well.

All the best.

Hi hgladner,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We want to help with your Apple Music issue, but we need a little more clarification:

When you say skipping, does it bring up the title of the song briefly and then skip to the next track, or just not even try to play the song entirely?

Are you shuffling the playlist?

Does this happen with any other playlists?

Do you ever see any errors or alerts when this occurs?

The answers to these questions will help us isolate the issue and work towards a resolution.

Regards.

I cannot find my original post that you are referring to. What happened to it?

The problem I have is that downloaded songs are not playing when I am in areas with weak or no data connections. I am nowhere near my iPhone’s storage capacity. I am using 98 GB of 512 GB. 64 GB of the 98 GB is music.

is it possible that downloaded songs are being removed from by iPhone because my other iOS devices (which have minimal storage capacity) I have Sync Library turned on?

I have turned off Sync Library off on my other devices and am checking this theory out. I have not had enough time to check this out yet to see if my problem s resolved. What are your thoughts?
