Did weird image file contain a virus, and will it harm a Mac?
Just sent an email with one intended attachment (a pdf), and when I clicked on the email to confirm it was in my sent box and did go out, I noticed two unknown images as .png files had been sent along with it: one called image001.png and the other image002.png. On image looked like the "t" in the twitter logo, and the other I believe had a blue background and the letters "i" and "n" (looked like the word "in"). I've deleted the files from my computer, but want to know how I can know if they were viruses, and if so, would they harm my macbook?
Thank you!
The PDF was a file that I had created from an iWeb page I designed -- I pretty much use iWeb like Pages, as a design tool from which I then make PDFs. So I had thought I was just attaching that one PDF and was surprised to see the two .png files also attached. Do you think the other person's anti-virus programs may stop the recipient from opening my email? It's an important business contact, so I'd feel awful if I gave them a virus -- and I would feel just as bad if they are unable to open my email or attachment, thereby screwing up a possible opportunity for me. Was thinking of sending again with a subject like: "Oops, Resending PDF" and body might say, "Somehow two other image files were sent with previous email, so here's the PDF again. Sorry for any confusion" Any advice/opinion? By the way, thanks a ton!
Ah, my friend totally solved this one -- he asked, "Were you replying to someone else's email?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Sometimes those images are logos that are part of the sender's signature block, and they just automatically get attached when you reply." I looked at the sender's original email and, sure enough, the Twitterish "t" and the other image were right there in the signature area. Thank you for your help!
