Virtual background

I have a MacBook Air late 2015 and am trying to use a WebEx virtual background. I get a message stating my computer does not meet minimum system requirements. Does this laptop not support virtual backgrounds at all or just WebEx?

Operating system:

  • macOS High Sierra (version 10.13) and later

Processor:

  • Apple M1*
  • Intel Core i9 dual-core processor or higher
  • Intel Core i7 5000 series dual-core processor or higher
  • Intel Core i7 3000 series quad-core processor or higher*
  • Intel Core i5 6000 series dual-core processor or higher
  • Intel Core i5 3000 series quad-core processor or higher
  • Intel Core i3 8000 series dual-core processor or higher
  • Intel Xeon dual-core processor or higher

Troubleshooting "Virtual Background":

Verify Compatibility: What's your macOS version? If it is not working, then you may need to update your macOS. Look up the system requirements, and see if this is met. To find out your macOS, go to: Apple menu > About this Mac > Top Item.

In addition to my above reply...

Determining which Update(s) will Install:

I. Verify Compatibility:

A. Start Here: Learn About Compatibility and how to Identify your Specific Mac Model - Apple Support

B. How to Verify:

Reveal your Model:

What is the Model of your Mac? To find out...

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Click: About this Mac
  3. View: Second Line-Down

then...

II. Compare the Results:

See if the Model you found is shown here:

III. If Compatible:

Back Up your Mac First:  Be certain you Create a Time Machine Backup of your Mac, so that way you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reconfiguration.

Troubleshooting a Software Install:

There is some inconsistencies here. So, a few things to try...

A. Perform a Restart:

Have you restarted since performing the upgrade? If not, then save all your data > shut down your Mac for 30 seconds > boot uo normally > see if this still occurs.

B. Reinstall the App:

Reinstall the app --it may be a corrupt install.

C. Single Out this User:

For temporary use, create a new administrator, seeing if you still get this error. If so, then it is an error in the macOS. If so, then it is an error with the current user. So, what you would do is trasnfereverything over to this new user, and then trash this current user.

D. Restore from a Backup:

Do you have a Time Machine Backup of your Mac that you created prior to this? If so, restore form it. If not, take this as a learning experience, knowing to always create a Time Machine backup of your Mac prior to making any major change to is (i.e. macOS upgrade), so that you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall.

E. Boot into Safe Mode:

Hold Down the Shift Key upon boot. Once at the login screen, release shift. See if it all now works. In Safe Mode, only necessary items load (i.e. the caches), and new preferences are set aside.

If nothing above works, then...

F. Reinstall the macOS:

Nothing would be lost, it's just that sometimes changes are made to your system, and then then processes become corrupted, technically. When reinstalling, deleted files are reinstalled, and misplaced files are moved back to where they should be. Go Here: How to Reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support
