AirPods Pro start music playing when removed from ears!

When I take my AirPods Pro out, the music app starts playing (if they were connected to my MBP, Apple Music plays; if they were connected to my iPhone XR, whichever music app was last in use starts playing. How do i stop this unwanted behaviour?

Thanks for your reply. I never listen to music with the iPhone Music app, nor with the Music app on my MBP.

When I take out the ear pods, and put them in their little box, usually (but not always) music will start playing on the device they were connected to. On the MBP Apple's Music app launches; on the iPhone, usually Music launches, though sometimes other apps, such as BBC Sounds. It's clearly a bug in the ear pods software, but it would be great if there were an option "When you take out the ear pods, do not launch music apps"!

Hi ormot,

Is the issue only occurring when you are listening to music from the Apple Music app? Also, does the issue only occur when you take one AirPod out? The reason we're asking because based on the article here: Change the settings of your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support.

By default, AirPods sense when they're in your ear and receive the audio from your device. AirPods also pause and resume playback when you remove one of your AirPods, or stop playback—and won't resume—when you remove both. When you have Automatic Ear Detection on and you're not wearing your AirPods, audio plays through your device's speakers.
When you turn off Automatic Ear Detection, these features are off and all audio plays to your AirPods whether or not you're wearing them.

If that does not apply, then does restarting the devices using the steps in the articles below seem to resolve the issue?

Lastly, does the issue occur after resetting the AirPods using the steps here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

We want to try all that we can to resolve the issue.

Best regards
