Mouse stuck in Screen Sharing window after sleep

In the past two days, I've noticed that when I wake up from sleep and I have a Screen Sharing session running, my mouse gets caught in the Screen Sharing window and I cannot switch back to my own computer. I have tried several keystroke tricks but cannot seem to get mu cursor back. The only solution that I have found is to restart the remote machine in order to release my mouse.I am running MacOS 12.5 on both computers.

Any ideas?

I have saved screen sharing app in the dock. I click and hold on the icon and then select MiniM1.vncloc doc from the dropdown. This is using the only account on the device which is an administrator account. The mini had no keyboard or monitor, FileVault is on and each time I reboot, I run the command:

sudo fdesetup authrestart -delayminutes -1

so I so not need to attach a keyboard and monitor to unlock it. This has only happened twice since the upgrade and I am not sure if I can reproduce it

I just experienced it again. I woke my Macintosh from sleep and the mouse was stuck in the screen sharing window for another Mac. In order to fix the problem, I needed to restart the remote Mac and then the mouse was released. I believe that the computer went to sleep when the remote Mac was the active window, but I am not sure. I will pay closer attention to this and let you know if I can reproduce this.

Hey Paul,

To be sure we fully understand, how are you screen sharing from your Mac? Are you using the Messages application with these steps Share your screen using Messages on Mac - Apple Support or these steps instead Share the screen of another Mac - Apple Support

Does this happen if you use another user account? To test, create an administrator account to see if the behavior happens there. This will tell us if the issue is user specific or system-wide: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Keep us posted.

Take care!

Thanks for clarifying this for us, Paul,

We'd suggest that you restart your Mac in safe mode temporarily as it will check your startup disk and clear some system caches for you. If you need help to start in safe mode, you can follow the steps outlined here: How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

Let us know if you still experience the same behavior after you restart again from safe mode.

Kind regards.
