Desktop and downloads missing

Hi,

All my stuff on the desktop and downloads have disappeared. The computer and the rest of the computer are OK. What should I do?

Desktop, Downloads, Documents...gone? It started a few days ago, possibly January 1. When I need to work on a downloaded file, or an image or a Pages file stored on the Desktop or in Documents, nothing in those areas can be retrieved because the icons for them have disappeared. Items on the desktop can be dragged and dropped on a program icon, but what's on the desktop is a very small percentage of the files I work with every day. The only way I could add the attached screenshot was to drag it from the desktop to one of the portable drives. It was inaccessible otherwise, on a desktop that cannot be reached. Help, please. A reboot doesn't seem to help.

Entire desktop disappeared, no icons my entire desktop disappeared for no apparent reason. In other words, no icons - just a blank screen. How do i restore it? [Re-Titled by Moderator]
