Hi jw1958zoe,

We see you have a question about the range of AirTags. Depending on whether you mean range in general or Precision Finding range, the answer will vary. This link has a bit of detail about the general range: AirTag - Apple

How does it work?

Your AirTag sends out a secure Bluetooth signal that can be detected by nearby devices in the Find My network. These devices send the location of your AirTag to iCloud — then you can go to the Find My app and see it on a map. The whole process is anonymous and encrypted to protect your privacy. And itʼs efficient, so thereʼs no need to worry about battery life or data usage.

Based on this, the AirTag is identified by its proximity to other devices in Find My, so there's no official range limit.

Regarding Precision Finding, see the below: Find your keys, wallet, and more with AirTag - Apple Support

Your AirTag must be within Bluetooth range to use Precision Finding or play a sound using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If it's out of range, get directions to it first. Precision Finding uses Ultra Wideband, which is not available in all countries or regions. Learn more about Ultra Wideband availability

To use Precision Finding, your own iPhone would have to be within general Bluetooth range of the AirTag, and you'd also want to keep this in mind:

Environmental factors, including wall materials or objects between your iPhone and your AirTag, might impact performance.

We hope this answers your question. Take care.
