My ipad is connected to an apple account that no longer exists: login fails and cannot login to Apple Icloud account on the computer.
I followed these instructions and they did not solve the issue:

If you are the original owner, contact Apple. Apple can remove the ID if provided the required paperwork to include the original purchase receipt with the serial number on it.
