My son’s iPhone SE stopped receiving group messages from groups that include android users. He has tried several things, and generally knows way more about these things than I do, but nothing has worked and he continues to miss important text messages.
Any advice would be most appreciated.

The ability to send or receive SMS/MMS group messages, which is what a group message is that has non-iOS users, is controlled by your carrier. Just make sure that MMS Messaging and Group Messaging is turned on, and if they are, then the carrier may need to reset the account for that phone for SMS/MMS provisioning.
