Where can I download High Sierra. I have an old mack that I would like to resurrect. The instructions from apple to use the App Store fail. It undertakes a full download then announces that the source file has been deleted .... I swear that whoever keeps the apple support pages up to day runs WINDOWS ....

Follow this How to get old versions of macOS and verify what version this computer Qualifies to install.  For Best results use Safari to commence the download as Others may not work.

Safari will open a redirect and open the Apple Store where the download can commence.

Any yes it does work as I just downloaded the Full Version of HS 10.1.3.6 using Safari

Troubleshooting High Sierra macOS Install Errors:

Use a USB Bootable Installer:

Create a USB Bootable Installer for High Sierra. (If installing anew, delete the hard drive's partition). Then, install this macOS with it. Go Here: How to Create a Bootable Installer for macOS - Apple Support. If you cannot get into your Mac, then you'd need to use another Mac to create one.

Make sure to delete the High Sierra installer app from the Applications folder ("Install macOS High Sierrra" I think) and empty the Trash before trying to download it again. If you still have problems, then repeat this and boot into Safe Mode to try again just in case you have some third party software installed which is interfering with the normal operation of macOS.

Also, why are you wanting/needing to reinstall macOS? If it is to resolve a problem, then you should include those details as the problem downloading the installer may be related to the original issue.

You should also be able to boot into Recovery Mode (Command + R) to access local recovery mode if you want to reinstall macOS (assuming you are currently running High Sierra). If your Mac only supports up to High Sierra, then a better option would be to boot into Internet Recovery Mode (Command + Option + R) to access the online High Sierra installer.

Do you have access to another Qualifying Mac which is compatible with macOS 10.13? This would include most Macs from 2010 to 2018. To confirm compatibility of another Mac you can use this article to see which Apple hardware is compatible with macOS 10.13:

As I said in my original post ... it is the download of High Sierra Install that fails. The link provided in the Apple support Instructions fails so no software ... no way to make USB. The App store download downloads the 5 odd GB then errors saying the source file (ie the one on the app store) has subsequently been deleted....
