"emails: Thanks for the suggestion, but it's three minutes and counting.: It only happens with mailing lists, and not consistently. A recent email from a list will load, but not an earlier one from the same list. Go figure."

Troubleshooting eMails on a Mac:
A. Open in Safe Mode:
In Safe Mode, Login Items do not run at login, certain preferences are set aside, and damaged system files are then reset. So, once booted in to Safe Mode, wait 30 seconds, and try opening it. Then boot up normally, attempting another update install. For instructions, go here: How to Use Safe Mode on your Mac - Apple Support
B. Provide your Feedback:
Do your Part: Inform Apple of your feedback. Apple wont get back to you directly, but the more feedback thy receive from its users, the more likely they will know what needs to be fixed.
We need to see what all is running, a report from this will not display any personal info...
EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.
Pastebin is a good place to paste the whole report if you capture the URL while there…
Workable but harder for me to work with...the Note tool on the bottom of this editor's toolbar, as shown in the image, to copy and paste the output from EtreCheck. In a Reply before you click post, look for this to add longer texts...
It's really easy to run and post the Etrecheck results. Download load it from the link in BDAqua's post and copy and add it as follows:
Copy the report
and use the Additional Text button to include the report in your reply by pasting.

Do you see the headers and title? If so, then it is probably suck loading the contents of he eMail. It sometimes takes a minute or two for it to upload on my 2018 MBP with Catalina. So, wait it out.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it's three minutes and counting.
It only happens with mailing lists, and not consistently. A recent email from a list will load, but not an earlier one from the same list. Go figure.
Is this information from your user rifle accurate MacBook Air 13″, macOS 12.2 ?
If so, the current stable version of Monterey is 12.5, as of July 20, 2022
This maybe related to this issue
You are welcome and thank you too 🇨🇦
Always a good idea to keep the OS up to date.
Do come back to the Apple Support Communities ( ASC ) in the future, if / or when additional questions may arise
Thanks for your reply but this is beyond my competence level. I've decided to live with it.
I did this, but nothing changed and I've decided to live with it. I can check the offending emails on my phone. A pain, but better than the hassle.
OK, it's generally due to lack of resources from too much going on.
I don’t think it can be that because it’s a new laptop and all I’ve set up are emails. I haven’t transferred any of my data across yet.
You are a star, P. Phillips. I updated Monterey and have had no further trouble. Thank-you.
