I have the same problem, sounds like a movie reel that interferes with the recording and playback, but only on The animated emojis. I have factory reset my phone still happens with or without cover or screen protector,. It used to work fine but not anymore-again, the videos are totally fine in every other app. It’s only the animated Emojis in messages.

have you restarted the iPhone ie power off/on,

Yes, I have restarted the iphone and always keep my iDevice updated. I even did a full factory reset on the iphone, twice. and it;s still there...it's super annoying because no one can listen to it..
