Unable to make calls on iPhone XR

I recently inherited my sons XR. When I tried to make a call, it said, Last line no longer available. Do you want to use your remaining line? According to an old discussion, I deleted recent and missed calls and it seemed to fix the issue. When I used the phone in the car, the same pop up came on. If I use CarPlay, it does not seem to be a problem. It seems silly to have to go through an extra step every time I want to make a call on my iPhone. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you reset the phone to factory settings when you got it? That should have been the first step→What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Your phone can support 2 lines. Apparently one of them was disabled by the carrier, but not turned off on the phone→Using Dual SIM with an eSIM - Apple Support

Thank you for your help. I did reset it to factory settings. When I transferred everything from the old phone to the XR, I could not call out or receive calls. I contacted Verizon and they took care of the rest over the phone. After following your link, I went into settings, cellular and did not see any other numbers. I have had the phone more than a couple weeks and this was the first time this pop up showed up. The only thing I did yesterday was to connect the phone to CarPlay. Could that have done something?

It might, if the phone had previously been used with Car Play. Unpair the phone and the car, then re-pair them.
